SOUTHERN FRIED MURDER

You know a play is set in the South when all the women are named Magnolia. And five women named Magnolia was just the beginning of an ingeniously irreverent send-up of Southern archetypes called Southern Fried Murder, written by playwright Billy St. John. This interactive dinner-theatre comedy/mystery, by the author of Figments, thoroughly spoofed a range of character types from Southern literature (and movies set in the South). In addition to enjoying the hilarious play, the audience got to talk with the characters and participate in solving the mystery.

Left: Lawyer Ben Parker [Bob DeLuca] may not always earn the ladies' trust, but he often earns their attention. [Counterclockwise from upper left: Magnolia Woods [Jaelynne Goff], Magnolia Slatterly [KAT], Magnolia St. Lawrence [Kitrina Phillips] and Magnolia Frost [Dianna Wayman].
Right: The Slatterly twins [Colin Dixon, KAT] look for clues among the flowers.

Presented at Mountain View Restaurant (Clifford, PA) on August 5-7, 2005, and at William's at the Ritz (Scranton, PA) on August 12-14, 19-20, 2005. Proceeds from the August 12 performance went to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Theatrical Alliance Scholarship Fund. All other Scranton performances benefited Showcase Theatre in Exeter, PA.
