STEEL MAGNOLIAS

The Company jumped into 2004 with a revival of one of its first productions, Robert Harling's funny and poignant study of the charm and idiosyncracies of Southern womanhood. In this exquisite slice of life, an all-woman cast explores the emotional terrain of a Lousiana beauty shop on the eve of a momentous wedding. (Click here to read about EMTC's performances of this play back in 2000.)

It takes a good actor to pretend to be a bad actor, and in Van Zandt and Milmore's Drop Dead, that's exactly what EMTC's cast did. This unique comedy-mystery is a hilarious spoof of the theatre world. Like Hamlet, Drop Dead involves a "play within the play". Like Hamlet . . . only much, much funnier.

The play-within-the-play is a pretentious opus that has been converted into a trite mystery, directed by an egomaniacal has-been under the supervision of a crass, money-grubbing producer. Now, picture it all stiffly and incompetently performed by a "cast" of third-rate humbugs, foolhardy novices, and stars very, very past their prime. Here's where EMTC's good actors got to show off by pretending to be hilariously bad actors. Add in some disastrous special effects - and a handful of murders - and we had a terrific play about a terrible play!

As he brings his theatrical vision to life, director Victor Le Pewe [Ray Telnock, right] keeps a respectful eye on the wishes of producer Sol Weisenheimer [David Schmidt].

RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN'S CINDERELLA

It's probably safe to assume that we all know the Cinderella story. And, like Cinderella herself, the names Rodgers and Hammerstein need no introduction to playgoers. When Susquehanna County audiences heard songs like "In My Own Little Corner", "A Lovely Night", "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" and "Impossible", as rendered by EMTC's big, talented, cast, they were reminded of why Richard Rodgers is considered to be one of the greatest American composers of the twentieth century.
