EMTC Playwright Sees PublicationBack in 2001, EMTC performer Jonathan Caws-Elwitt decided to write a one-act comedy for local production. Though Jonathan had written many songs and humor essays, he had never before written a script for the stage. "It was the fun of doing community theatre with EMTC that inspired me," he says. The play was a farce called The Can of Yams, and EMTC brought it to life in 2002. This original version of the play included two songs by Jonathan (one co-written by pianist Charlie Zayleskie, a one-time collaborator in Jonathan's pop band The Silly Pillows). Jonathan continued writing stage comedies (seeing production both within and beyond Susquehanna County), and he decided to seek publication for his plays as well--beginning with "Yams." Earlier this year, the non-musical version of The Can of Yams was accepted by Baker's Plays, a prominent publisher of scripts. The play recently came into print and is now available for purchase and production through Baker's. |
